Can you whistle? No? Too bad, because Bindaas demands it. After all, this action-packed flick is an all-out entertainer that promises to keep your adrenaline levels high from the word go.
The storyline has all the ingredients that make for a perfect masala flick — action, drama, romance, comedy and of course, foreign locations. What it doesn't have is novelty. It's the same old suave-hero-flaunts-muscles-and-thrashes-the-bad-guys stuff that has been done to death by filmmakers all over the world. But, somehow, the formula never fails, especially when it is supported by relatively good acting and excellent camera-work.
Bindaas has both. While the cinematography by J Shridhar is one of the elements that holds the film together, stellar performances by Raja (Kajol's elder brother Rudro), Kharaj Mukherjee (Krishnochandra Singha) and Chiranjit Chakraborty (Dibakar Sen) are definitely worth a mention. Dev, of course, lives up to his star image and offers a power-packed package for all his fans. The leading ladies, too, are good in their own right.
Then again, director Rajib deserves an extra pat on the back for keeping the flow of things tight and interesting, though the film feels a mite too long towards the end. The songs are well-timed, however, two romantic songs coming in a space of hardly 10 minutes, and that too, in a flashback sequence, seems a bit forced. At least one of the two could have been omitted, since both were shot in Greece. But the music itself is not very inspiring, though the title track has been making waves in the party circuit.
But now the best part — the action sequences. Stuff made for whistles. It's the brain-numbing marathon of dishoom dishoom, blood and gore that will perhaps make Bindaas work. Sad, but that's what make for hit movies in India — the formula that never fails. Practice your whistles, arm yourself with a huge bag of popcorn and go watch Bindaas. It's mindless, it's violent, but it will surely entertain you. If you need more intellectual stuff, head to a film fest.
